Bar Sardine (West 4th Street and West 10th Street) boasts a lot of superlatives: best staff, best music, best bar food, best burger. Crispy shoestring potatoes, red onion, bbq mayo, and not-too-pickle-y cucumbers. We've been known to order 3 burgers. For two people.
Corner Bistro (West 4th Street and Jane Street) - a West Village institution that isn't exactly "gourmet." The perfect dive bar with burgers that hit the spot.
Minetta Tavern (McDougal Street and Minetta Lane) - So it's tough to get a reservation and the Black Label Burger is $32... but it's worth it. Made from a secret blend of dry-aged ribeye, skirt steak and brisket, drizzled with clarified butter during the cooking process, and topped with caramelized onions. I suggest walking in either early or late to get a spot at the bar - which serves the full menu.
